Third person found positive for Measles

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that a third person have been found positive for the Measles virus today.

With the findings of today, the total number of positive cases have tallied up to 3. The other two cases were found in a 3-year-old and a 30-year-old Maldivian.

HPA stated that 10 people suspected for Measles were tested today. The information for the person that was tested positive have not been released by the agency yet.

The Ministry of Health held their second news briefing regarding the Measles outbreak today. Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen stated the government are treating this problem very seriously, and vaccines enough for 200,000 people are currently being brought to the Maldives. The Minister said that he expects the vaccines to arrive in 10 days.

The symptoms of Measles include fever, tiny spots on the skin, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose and eye inflammation (conjunctivitis).

Health professionals urge those who have not had their Measles vaccine to complete 2 doses as soon as possible.

People that experience fever and tiny spots on the skin are advised to seek professional help from a hospital or healthcare center.
