A scarf pin was successfully removed from the stomach of a 19-year-old girl in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

In a tweet published by IGMH, the hospital stated that the scarf pin was lodged in the stomach wall of the 19-year-old girl. The pin was removed by the department of surgery team at the hospital using UGI Endoscopy.

UGI Endoscopy is a procedure that uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera (called as an endoscope) to view the Upper Gastrointestinal series of a person. Using the camera, the surgery team will be able to view the inside walls of the stomach and pinpoint the exact location of injury.

Moreover, IGMH has also warned the public to stay protected from such injuries caused by putting small objects in their mouth. They further stated that the patient could have undergone major surgery had the Endoscopic attempts failed.

Earlier this month, a scarf pin lodged inside the lung of a 17-year-old was also successfully removed at IGMH.
