HPA warns about Larva Migrans

Health protection agency (HPA) has advised the public to stay alert from “Larva migraines” disease which is caused by cats, and is spreading these days. 

In a Tweet, HPA stated that this disease is common in the Maldives and that it is easily curable.

Furthermore, they stated that larva migraine disease is caused by cat feces. As this disease affects the human skin, they also advised the public to consult a doctor if any sign of this disease is noticed.

HPA has advised the community to abide by the following guidelines to help prevent this disease:

  • Don’t walk barefoot on the sand 
  • Stay away from cat feces
  • Cat owners should deworm their cats
  • Use gloves while cleaning cat litter boxes
  • Wash your hand with soap frequently
  • Don’t let children touch the sand in the parks and beaches
