Ministry of Health has handed over ambulances to 25 islands. This is part of the work done by the government to establish a National Ambulance Service.

With the conclusion of this project, all inhabited islands in the country will have ambulance services according to the ministry.

Ministry of Health initially announced the project in a special ceremony held on the 25th of October 2019. Currently, the ministry is conducting works to provide these ambulances to the islands according to a ministry officer.

21 of the 25 ambulances that are being provided are paramedic ambulances that were contributed by the Japanese government. The remaining 4 are basic life support ambulances, which were provided to 4 islands that did not have any ambulance services, said the health ministry officer.

In the ceremony held in October, Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen has stated that along with the introduction of ambulances, the ministry also gives special attention to the training of the staff.
