Minister Ameen calls for global attention on vaccinations

The OIC conference is held every two years, and this year will mark the 7th year of the conference.

The health minister of Maldives, Mr. Abdulla Ameen calls for global attention on vaccinations at the 7th Islamic conference on Health Ministers Meeting (ICHM) held in Abdu Dhabi.

During the conference, minister Ameen called to withdraw OIC attention to the very pertinent matter of life protecting, disease preventing vaccinations and the importance of sustaining vaccine availability and coverage in countries.

In addition, he asked all the participants of ICHM to give their thoughts to overcome the challenges. Especially the smaller and resource deficient countries like Maldives are facing in the area of vaccine coverage, both in terms of availability and the growing threat in vaccine hesitancy. Mr. Ameen states that larger and resourceful countries can individually or collectively invest more in science.

During his speech, the minister also highlighted the achievements in the area of communicable diseases in Maldives such as, introduction of higher taxes and controls on marketing and promotions on unhealthy foods and beverages and the introduction of 90% graphic health warning labels on tobacco products.
