Road Safety Walk held yesterday

The ‘Road Safety Walk’ was held simultaneously in all corners of the Maldives yesterday.

In capital Male’ city, this walk was organized by the Ministry of Health and Health Protection Agency (HPA), in collaboration with Civil Aviation, Maldives Police Services, Male’ City Council and the Maldivian Red Crescent. The theme for the walk was “Save Lives, Speak Up”.

The Vice President of the Maldives, Mr. Faisal Naseem also participated in this walk. 

According to statistics, an average of 2000 accidents occur each year in all the major islands of the Maldives. Due to these, an average of 9 people lose their lives each year.

The ‘Road Safety Walk’ in Male’ city started in front of Social Center and finished at the Henveiru Stadium.

Moreover, an accident scene was displayed to the public in two areas of Majeedhee Magu. The Maldives Police Services and Maldivian Red Crescent taught the public proper methods to lift and carry these patients to safety. The different ways to act in such a situation along with first aid care to the patient was also shown.

Members from government offices, private organizations along with others were part of the walk that had more than 300 participants. 

HPA has also decided to conduct this event annually to raise awareness on road safety.
