Government launches Public Health Fund after 7 years

The Maldives Government has launched a "Public Health Fund", 7 years after the Public Health protection bill was introduced in 2012.

This fund was launched yesterday at the National conference on “Revitalizing Public Health” held at Paradise island resort. Moreover, the public health fund was launched by the Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen.

At the ceremony, Minister Ameen stated that it is an honor to launch this fund years after the introduction of public health protection bill act in the Maldives. Minister Ameen also stated that the ministry hopes the fund will be prosperous and benefit everyone. He also urged major businesses to support and help in raising the funds which would benefit the community.

Furthermore, Director General of Health Protection Agency Ms. Maimoona Aboobakuru revealed that from the day the fund was opened, they are yet to acquire any funds. 

“Yet we have been financing the general public health issues that comes daily”, says Ms. Maimoona. 

The main aim of the public health fund is to put an effort on public health issues and prevent different diseases. Moreover, it’s aim is to increase awareness of the community on public health.
