HA. Thakandhoo officially started their laboratory services on the 18th of October 2019. The service was officially opened by the President’s Office minister, Mr. Mohamed Shifaz.

The machinery and the tests required have already been established in the health center.

HA. Thakandhoo has a population of 934 people. Previously, the people of this island had to travel to HA. Dhidhoo Atoll Hospital or HA. Kulhudhuffushi Hospital in order to get their laboratory tests done. It takes 20 minutes by speed launch to travel from Thakandhoo to Dhidhoo, and 45 minutes from Thakandhoo to Kulhudhuffushi.

However, it is nearly impossible to make these travels in bad climate conditions. Hence, the availability of these services can make life easier for the citizens of HA. Thakandhoo.

The islands that already provide laboratory services in the atoll include HA. Ihavandhoo Health center, HA. Hoarafushi health center, HA. Baarah health center, HA. Thuraakunu health center, HA. Kelaa health center, HA. Filladhoo Health center, HA. Uligamu Health center and HA. Thakandhoo Health center.
