Cyryx College, the longest serving private college in the Maldives, with the most Maldives Qualification Authority certified courses in the education sector has announced an all new Degree in psychology.

The introductory ceremony was held yesterday where the college informed, they will be prioritizing early applications, further adding the process is currently ongoing and that the course is set to start next month with 20 open slots.

The newly introduced course will offer the option of receiving a diploma after completion of the first year and an associate degree after the second year if the student chooses to leave early.

During the introduction ceremony for the course the CEO of society for health education (SHE) and ex-state minister for education Ahmed Shafeeu spoke on the importance for a degree in the field of psychology for the Maldives. During his speech he stated the need for our society to evolve into one that is healthy rather than striving to cure another illness after getting sick.

The current rector for Cyryx college Dr. Fawaz also spoke in the ceremony appraising the program to be a significant step towards being a mentally healthier society. He also stated the college’s intention to introduce a master’s degree in psychology next year.

While the new degree is a first of its kind in the college it has been offering diploma in psychology since 2015.
