The Novel Coronavirus outbreak in China has started to spread to multiple countries recently, thus prompting health authorities to take action. Due to the risk of the virus entering the Maldives, pediatrician Dr Niyaf has stated that the authorities should implement stronger surveillance and screening at the airports.
In the outbreak that began in Wuhan City, so far 9 people have died, and hundreds are affected around the country. As a result, the virus has spread to other countries such as Thailand and America.
The first case of the Novel Coronavirus was first reported last December, and according to Chinese authorities, the risk of the virus evolving and spreading to new areas are high. The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently investigating the case.
Some countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, America and South Korea have already started screening at airports. While highlighting the quick response from these countries, in a tweet, Dr Niyaf stated that most countries have already implemented surveillance at airports.
Re: 2019-nCoV,@HPA_MV, it looks like it’s time to have the surveillance vigilance formally, publicly and visibly implemented at our airports.

Most countries have. And announce the measures too. Everyone must know and see that the measures are implemented. Create confidence. Pls.
In addition, he also stated that the Maldives should formally implement and announce the measures, so that the public are aware.
Dr Niyaf further said that fever screening systems are already implemented at Velana International Airport, and that he hopes the system is being used.
