Due to the spreading of Influenza, a man has died last night at IGMH while undergoing treatment.
According to sources, the man is 51-year-old Mohamed Rafeeu from M. Muli, Mariyaz.
Last month, HPA released a statement, warning the public of the increased spreading of the Influenza virus. Compared to October, the number of people diagnosed with Influenza has spiked in the month of November, according to HPA statistics.
Influenza is a viral infection that attacks the respiratory system. This includes the nose, throat and lungs. For most, influenza resolves on its own, but complications could arise for some groups of the population. These include:
- Children under the age of 5
- Adults over the age of 65
- Pregnant women
- People with chronic illnesses such as asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease and diabetes
- People with weakened immune systems
Some of the symptoms of Influenza include fever, sore throat, cough, runny or stuffed nose, headaches and tiredness. It is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as possible if symptoms last.
In addition, HPA has advised the public to remain indoors and to vaccinate against this disease.
