Minister of Health Mr. Abdullah Ameen signed the petition from the “Aharen Dhekolhu” campaign held against smoking in public places.
This campaign is an initiative by more than 50 NGOs from the Maldives. The media official of this campaign, Zidhan Mohamed, stated that a huge number of people has already signed the petition. He also highlighted that the health minister signing this petition is a huge milestone and indicates great progress for their campaign.
Zidhan further claims that the aim of this campaign is to stop smoking in public places, and within the next few months, the petition will be submitted to the people’s parliament. They also plan to continue this campaign for a longer term.
Some notable parties have already signed the petition including First lady Fazna Ahmed and ministers from the government.
