According to the Maldives Disease statistics, the most common diseases in Maldives nowadays are life threatening diseases, says Minister of Health Mr. Abdulla Ameen.
In the national conference on “Revitalizing public health: Working together for a healthier nation” held at paradise island resort, Minister Ameen stated that government is spending massive amounts to get the latest machines and health experts to treat non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
During the speech, the Minister claimed that the main cause for such diseases is unhealthy habits we use in our daily lives. Furthermore, the lack of knowledge on the importance of physical activities, eating habits, smoking and drugs are some of the reasons that cause life threatening diseases according to Minister Ameen.
Moreover, with the assist of this three days conference, the future plan they create will ensure all the Maldivians a healthy lifestyle, says the minister. He also stated that while knowing or unknowingly, we all are neglecting our own health.
The conference held at paradise island resort will include, sensitizing policymakers on the need for, and the impact of, investing in public health for national development and inclusion of preventive/public health in all policies across the government and national institutions, and on the urgency on accelerating evidence-based public health measures to meet the SDGs, Sharing lessons and opportunities for multi-sectoral collaboration and community partnerships to provide healthy living/working environments and empowering families for their health and to discuss strategic pathways to integrate full spectrum of public health services, in particular, primary and preventive health care, to create continuum of care/services from promotive, preventive to curative and rehabilitative services.
