According to the statistics by HPA, in 2019 from January to October, 4420 cases of Dengue fever and 1460 cases of Chikungunya has been reported. This statistic was shown in the weekly report released by HPA today.
In September and October, the greatest number of Dengue fever cases were reported from Sh. N. Lh. Atolls and Male’ and Hulhumale. Sh. Atoll reported a total of 54 cases, N. Atoll had a total of 66 cases, Lh. Atoll with a total of 69 cases, and Male’ and Hulhumale reported a total of 130 cases. The least number of cases in these two months were reported from F. Atoll and V. Atoll.
For Chikungunya, the September and October statistics show that the greatest number of cases were reported from R. Atoll (333 cases), GA. Atoll (291 cases) and Male’ (393 cases). The least number of cases were reported from L. Atoll.
Furthermore, this report showed that compared to the past 3 years, the number of Dengue cases reported in 2019 has increased.
Dengue Fever and Chikungunya are caused by the Aedes Mosquito. Symptoms include high fever, headache, joint pain and fatigue. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is advised to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
