The Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has said that the ministry is discussing on regulating the use of E-cigarettes in the Maldives.
In a press conference held at the Ministry of Health, while answering a journalist, Minister Ameen has said that in order to make a decision, the ministry is partnering up with authorities to do more research and analyze the situation.
“We are doing research and more work on this matter. Within the Ministry and the Health sector, we are discussing whether we should regulate or ban [E-cigarettes].” Ameen said.
The negative effects of E-cigarettes were first brought to the attention of many after a vaping-related death in America. To this day, the number of deaths related to vaping and E-cigarettes has risen to 34 in America alone.
In order to combat this problem, America has banned the use of E-cigarettes in some states. Other countries have followed America’s lead, including India, Brazil and Japan. (Read more)
