Mobile Laboratory Services implemented in 4 islands of L. atoll

With these four islands finally getting sample transferring services, the people of Hadhunmathi region can have their samples tested without having to travel to other islands.

Mobile Laboratory Services has officially begun in L. Kunahandhoo, L. Dhanbidhoo, L. Mundoo and L. Maamendhoo. Yesterday, on 20th October 2019, the service was opened by the Minister of Health Mr. Abdulla Ameen. 

All equipment and technology needed for this service has been established in these islands. And the transportation service has also been arranged to the nearest laboratory.

According to the statistics, 150 people on average seek laboratory services from L. Gan Regional Hospital every day. And 12 people on average every day seek laboratory services from the rest of the islands in this atoll. 

L. Dhanbidhoo is an island with a population of 1,057 people. Previously, in order to seek laboratory services, the people of this island had to travel 20 minutes and spend MVR 800 to reach L. Maabaidhoo. 

Moreover, the people of L. Mundoo, which has a population of 308, travels to L. Maabaidhoo in 5 minutes after spending MVR 400. 

L. Maamendhoo, has a population of 1,332. The people of this island travel to L. Hithadhoo to seek laboratory services. It takes 5 minutes to reach by speedboat and they have to spend around MVR 300.

Finally, L. Kunahandhoo which has a population of 887 people. The people make a 10-minute trip to L. Hithadhoo and spend MVR 500.

Hence, now that the samples can be taken in the islands itself, and be sent to the neighboring island for testing, the patients of these islands can benefit immensely. Furthermore, non-communicable diseases can now be identified beforehand, and regular laboratory tests can be done.

With these four islands finally getting sample transferring services, the people of Hadhunmathi region can have their samples tested without having to travel to other islands.
