First case of Measles after 1.5 years in the Maldives

The only way to prevent Measles infection is to vaccinate with 2 doses of the Measles, MMR and MR vaccines.

A measles case has been reported after 1.5 years in the Maldives, according to Pediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal. 

In a tweet, Dr Faisal confirmed that a Measles case have been found. He also asked all parents to check vaccination cards of their children to make sure all necessary vaccinations have been given.

According to Dr. Faisal, the only way to prevent Measles infection is to vaccinate with 2 doses of the Measles, MMR and MR Vaccine.

Furthermore, he noted that the measles virus remains in the air around an infected person for 1 hour, and as a result, there is a chance of the infection spreading to other people.

Measles is a deadly virus that is air-borne. It spreads through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, pink eye and a red rash.

With regards to this incident, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated that an individual has been suspected of having Measles, and currently being tested.
